Check up at 5.5 month old

Brought Elly for her monthly check up last Friday before departing back to Malacca. Her weight didnt increase much from the previous month, only a mere 200g, making her weight now is 7.5 kg. Took 2 jabs (Hepatitis B and the 3-in-1(diptheria, polio and the third one,i forgot what is it for). Mild fever for the next 2 days.

She looks leaner and taller now. Sleep less during the day and play more. It is time to increase her milk intake from 5 ounces to 5.5-6.0 ounces. Will try increasing little by little. Elly's new hobby now are screaming and babbling, yesterday can babble 'Bah-beh', 'Beh-err', and sounds that resembled 'Pa-pa'. Sky was so ecstatic and keep teaching Elly to say 'Pa-pa'.

Am really happy seeing her growing up and the small small new discovery by Elly.

Elly's longest cry

We were back to Elly's Ah-Mah house for the weekend before Sky departs to US for work. Everything went well and Elly was very happy and excited to see her Ah-Mahs and family. On Saturday nite when we tried to put Elly to sleep, she threw tantrum and was crying non-stop for about 40 minutes.

Her noise was so loud and intense, waking up everyone at home. We were worried what was wrong with her, even to the extent to undress her in case there is anything 'poking' to her skin! We shifted from room to room, hoping that her cry would stopped, but to no avail.

At last resort, we went down to the living hall and try to sooth her crying. It did not worked too. Sky, myself and Ah-Mah seemed unable to stopped her crying and each time we tried to put her down on bed, her cry grew louder. After about 30-40 minutes, finally she stopped crying and slept on my laps.

Well, we still dont know what was wrong with her. Perhaps she was too tired as she slept less during the day as busy playing with Ah-Mah and Suk-Po(Grand-aunt).

Proved! Elly is Drapolene-Intolerant

After 2 weeks refrain from applying Drapolene to Elly, her nappy rash has recovered 99%. So this solved the puzzle that we had earlier.

Anyway, since now she is using Sebamed's bath and lotion, we continue to use these products. Afterall they are mild and gentle on baby skin.

This make me throw the Drapolene in my travel bag. Need to get another tube of Sebamed for Elly.

Silence is Golden

When i am composing this, Elly is sitting by my side. Just wanna capture the beautiful moments when she is by my side. She is sitting quietly next to me, and it is 440am!

Think she is inheriting my gene as an 'early bird'; rise early and sleep early. As the song goes "Silence is golden...", i tend to agree with it now though myself is a 'loud' person. She is focusing on the laptop screen, sure she is wondering what i am doing without making noise!

Hmmm, perhaps when Elly turns older, i will tell her this blog and let her continues her beautiful life story.

Nappy Rash

Since coming back from Malacca abt 3 weeks ago, Elly started to have some nappy rash. And as the days goes by, it is getting more and more severe. Had been to 2 doctors , the latter asked to change the shower bath and cream to Sebamed.

Trying to trace back what caused the nappy rash, i found these.
1. Long hours on Pampers (3 nites and 3 days consecutively)
Me being the lazy Mom trying to avoid bringing bags of napkins back to Malacca made me opting the 'short-cut' by giving Pampers to Elly

2.Change of baby cream from Pureen to Drapolene
I have a Drapolene in the baby travel bag, and throughout the stay in Malacca, i used Drapolene on Elly

3.Applying fungus medication on Elly as the first Doctor claimed the nappy rash was fungus. Perhaps the strong medication made the nappy rash worse.

4.Generous amount of Drapolene used by Elly's babysitter
She claimed that the medication by the Doc made the nappy rash worse and went on to apply 'generous' amount of Drapolene on Elly

5.Elly have active sweat gland
The sweat makes the area damp causing the nappy rash got worse

The above are all probabilities. Called the 2nd Doc yesterdat nite. He advised to not to put anymore Drapolene on Elly as some babies are allergic to Drapolene. Asked to use Sebamed for one week to see the result. Me being anxious, keep on jumping to conclusion that Sebamed did not help after only trying for a day.

Now,Elly is on napkins and i did not fold the napkin but instead, let the nappy rash area open to air. My daughter is 'semi-bogel' for these few days...

RM1 Saved

I 'stumbled' upon RM1 on my way back from work yesterday. Although this was a negligible amount, i saved it up for Elly. Dont know what can she buy with RM1 when she is able to spend money on her own since inflation is so high.

I remembered that when i was back in Year 1, RM1 was my weekly wages. joking? No, it is true. Popsickle at 10 cents, a plate of nasi lemak at 20 cents, a packet of french fries at 20 cents, a piece of roti canai at 20 cents.

Now each time i spend money, need to think 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 times. Is it a need, or a want? Can i save the money instead?

Raising Up Elly

Time flies and so fast it is Aug 2006. Elly will turn 5mo in 2 weeks. Was having some conversations with good friends lately on family planning, pregnancy and raising up kids nowadays.

There are some friends of mine who have been married for some time are still planning for a baby. The key reason is to be more financially sound before commit and be 'responsible' for the kid's live from bringing up, providing sound education, teaching manners and etc etc.

But then, being financially sound only is not enough in bringing kids up nowadays. Kids nowadays are a lot more smarter( i mean a lot lot more) than my generation. Perhaps it is the better ingredient in the infant formula? I dont know... Kids crave for attention, and spending time with them is crucial in bringing up a 'complete' kid.

No one is born as a perfect parent. Each of us, especially first time parent has to 'be there, done that', then only learnt from the experience and be a better parent. In my case, I am learning everyday with Elly. To be a perfect Mom? nah... i dont think so i can be , however i will try my best to provide the best for my kid(kids in coming years).

You Raised Me Up - Josh Groban

Music Video Codes by VideoCure.com

When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary;
When troubles come and my heart burdened be;
Then, I am still and wait here in the silence,
Until you come and sit awhile with me.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up: To more than I can be.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up: To more than I can be.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up: To more than I can be.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up: To more than I can be.
You raise me up: To more then I can be.
