2005 Accomplishment/2006 Resolution

Hmm.. it is the time of the year again to review yearly accomplishment and make some new resolution. Frankly, as i grew older, the list grew longer on things i want to achieve, places i wish to travel to, exclusive stuffs that i wish to own, acquire some new knowledge, career development, more personal time and quality time with family.

My best accomplishment this year are not something material, but more on self-fulfilment and opening new chapters in life. Got married to the man that i love deeply and planned to spend my entire life with, got pregnant and now anticipating her/his arrival to join our mini family. For me, these are the biggest accomplishment in my life, i really feel so at this moment...:)

As for the 2006 resolution, hope that i can be a 'guud' Mommy to my baby, and Baby is healthy and 'kuai gao zhang da' (Chinese for growing up and be good). This is the no 1 resolution for me. Being a full-time Mom? Nope, not thinking of this move yet at the moment. Will do so when i am financially and emotionally ready.

Girl --> Boy?

CDs and some gifts from Taiwan

One of my good pal back in campus, Ming was married to a Taiwanese. She came back recently to deliver her baby in Malaysia. In Taiwan, during her monthly gynae visits she received a lot of complimentary stuffs for both Mommy and baby.

On Christmas day, i received some gifts sent by her. Some relaxing songs for baby CDs, mittens and reading stuffs. Thanks, Ming.

Drama 'Porridge' during Xmas holidays

In Chinese, drama 'porridge' is referred to watching drama series for long hours non-stop. This was how i spent the weekends with my Hubby. Well, though not something productive, it was time 'well-spent' at home with Sky and also the little baby inside my tummy.

She/He has grown more active in kicking, 'jumping' and 'somersaulting' inside my tummy. And sometimes the movement was just too great that it made me felt like some tingling sensation, made me just crave for more. There were moments i lied down doing nothing, just focus on my tummy, waiting for my baby to make some 'stunts'.

Hmm.. perhaps life is 'slowing down' for me , but i am enjoying the new change. And today, my baby turns 28 weeks old, welcome to the final trimester...:)

Training on 'Effective Business Writing Skills'

Was away in Bangi for a 2 days course on 'Effective Business Writing Skills'. Learnt grammar, pronunciation, phonetics, memo/email/letter/report writing. And played a game called 'Taboo'. My baby was active during the class, kicking actively in my tummy.

Making me wondered, is she also listening attentively to the lectures? The best part was during the session of phonetics where the lecturer taught us to read the words based on the symbols given. Words that we thought we are so familiar with such as 'liaise', 'salmon', 'almond', 'croissant' and etc, all the while we were pronouncing them wrongly.

So i am thinking that i will have private time with my baby and together we will learn phonetics.

A Visit to UH Maternity Ward

Went to UH Maternity ward with colleagues to visit Mawar, my colleague which has gave birth. First time for me to be in Maternity ward..:) But since her baby is staying in incubator, we were not allowed to visit the baby.

The baby is healthy, although pre-term, gaining weight and can take in milk. Need to gain another 1kg before the baby can be 'discharged' from the incubator. Saw the baby's photos from my colleague's handphone.

Oh, she was so cute. Her size was very small, naked and full of wires on her body. Hope that she can gain weight more quickly.

Sharings by a Doc friend

Anyone with leg swelling syndrome? Here's some sharings by my friend, Dr Lee..:)

Don't worry bout the leg swelling... It is normal. When ur baby grow bigger, she (hehe...since no testis yet... =P) tend to sit on ur abdominal large vein a lot, thus reducing the blood return of ur lower limbs back to ur heart. This increases the hydrostatic pressure of ur lower limb vessels which causes oozing of fluid out of the vessel. Therefore the edema or swelling. If u stand a lot,or in certain people, even get varicose vein during this time. So no worry. It will subside after the delivery (it will get worse!) Just be sure that u r not losing protein from urine (which is usually caused by PIH:Pregnancy Induced Hypertension). If u r not hypertensive now, then nothing to worry about. What u can do is, try lifting ur legs a little when u sleep to help venous return. Another alternative is to lie in right lateral position when u sleep (more effective), meaning try lying on ur right side more frequently. This way the baby sleep on ur side instead of on ur major blood vessels in the back of ur abdomen. As for anaemia, just pull ur lower eyelid down and see. If it is pink, u r not anaemic. If white like pontianak, then anaemia...

Colleague gave birth at 30 weeks

Remember in one of my earlier posts, i mentioned about my colleague admitted to UH for high blood? She gave birth to a baby girl on 17 Dec 06, at 30 weeks. Her blood pressure was very high and the Docs decided to operate and take the baby out.

Mom and baby were both safe, but baby had to stayed in incubator, being a mere 870 grammes.
Will pay her a visit this week.

Medical check up at 27 weeks

I went to my 3rd gynae check-up at HUKM yesterday. Well, as usual, since it is a Gov hospital, the queue and waiting time was long. I was there at 7.45 am, passed my 'blue pass book' to the counter and waited patiently for my name to be called up. No, No, you are wrong if you think that my name will be called by the nurse and straight go to the Doc's room. I was waiting to pay the treatment bill. This is the procedure at Gov hospital, pay first before service is delivered.

Waited for 30 minutes, paid my bill and went to a corner to take my 'measurement'. Weight:69 kg, Blood pressure:100/60, Urine test: Negative. Pheww... no high blood and dabetic at this stage.

As i knew that the Doc will only be in at 9am, went to the Cafeteria for my breakfast. Took my sweet time for breakfast. My number is 6 (No 6th patient to be treated by the Doc). Went back to the waiting area at 945am. Alamak... my number has passed... now the Doc is treating No. 11 patient.

Waited for the 11th lady to come out and informed the nurse my No. I was called shortly. No scan this time. Doc said from the previous scan, the baby is normal. Some consultation, checked my history. Was given 6 packs of pills, mostly iron pills since she was a bit worried that my level of Hb(haemoglobin) was a bit low. 9.65 (normal is 12). Was asked to take a blood test before my next check up on the 6th Feb 06.

Hmm, this will mean more lean meat, more green leafy vege, drink more plain water..:). I was done at 10.30 am. It was a record! Normally, i have to waited till 11++ till noon for the check up to be done.

So baby, your sex still mysterious to us.. but since until now also cannot see the testis(hehe), think you are a girl, definitely..:)

100 Things I hate About Pregnancy by Kate Konopicky

I was browsing through the Pregnancy book section in Borders when this book '100 Things I Hate About Pregnancy' caught my attention. It was a small and handy book. Since i was passing the time for the screening of AEON FLUX, i grabbed the book and sat in a corner and started reading it.

Hmm... some of the author thoughts during pregnancy were the same as mine although until now i cant make up to 100 things i hate during pregnancy. Perhaps i am able to take things more easily and just 'bear' with the 'ups and downs' of pregnancy.

Here are some of our common feelings and thoughts:
1. Lack of energy esp during first trimester made me feel like sleeping a lot and lack of accomplishment.
2.Changes in the body, started to have a cleavage? and a growing tummy. Does this make me into a 'full-grown' woman just because i am 'growing bigger'?
3.Everyone asked 'Do you prefer a boy or a girl?'. Although this does not irritates me as it did to the author, some Chinese still think that having a baby boy is better than a girl. I dont think so.
4.I am carrying a full bladder all the times. Although it was less than 5 min since i went to the ladies to 'answer the natural call', i begin to feel that the bladder is full again. Arrgh...
5.I feel pain in my tummy sometimes after a 'long' walk. This is due to the baby is positioning itself comfortably on one of the large blood vessel. And guess the definition of 'long'? It is just 10 minutes...

But after all, if you want me to sum up pregnancy in one word, i would say 'Fantastic!'. Being a Mom really does change my perception on so many things and also change the priorities in my life. I just love and 'crave' for the baby kickings in my tummy. Dont know how to express them in words, but it is really awesome and mystical (the only words i can think of since i cant express them more)

Baby, Ganbatte!

Urgency to 'pee' frequently

Starting this week, this syndrome is back. It was something i faced when i was in the late of my first trimester. The feeling that my bladder is full and need to rush to the loo immediately. After visiting the loo for less than 30 minutes, i begin to feel my bladder is full again.

Think that i am entering the third trimester, the baby is getting bigger and hitting on the bladder again. The last time i did a scan, the baby's head is still on top, not making its turn yet.

Courteous Malaysians towards pregnant lady

It has been about a year since i commute by train(LRT) to work. Avoid me the terrible jam in Cheras/KL routes. Being trained for courtesy since small, i always offer my seat to elderly, children and pregnant ladies whenever i see one on train.

Now that i am pregnant (6 months +), my tummy is very obvious, round and protruding. Most of the times when i boarded the train during peak hours, i have to be extra careful and 'protect' my tummy as there's my 'little one' inside.

And at most times, i am always blessed as courteous Malaysian will offer their seats to me, irregards of their race; Malay, Chinese, Indians and even Bangladeshi. Hmm, after all, Malaysians are courteous and the various campaigns by Gov stressing on courtesy did worked. Or putting it this way, it might be due to my 'kamma' (Buddhists beliefs in action-reaction, or simply 'you reap what you sow').

Don't get me wrong here, i am not trying to be superstitious or trying to scare anyone, but i simple believe that if we make other people happy via simple kind acts, service or charity, eventually the good deed will be returned to us(but don't ask me when).

This 'Law of Karma' i will definitely share with my baby when he/she is born.

Anti-tetanus vaccines

I went to my panel clinic yesterday after being advised by my cousin to check on my 'swollen' leg. Checked BP ( normal at 105/65) and urine test (clear). Doc informed that as long as there was no high BP and blurr eye-sight, the leg getting swollen was not dangerous. Need to elevate my legs when i sleep and whenever i can.

In my 26 weeks now, Doc advised to take a anti-tetanus jab. This package comes in 2 dosage. Took one jab yesterday and had to followed up with a 2nd jab after 4 weeks. This will protect me and the baby during delivery.

Wonders what is tetanus? Check it out at http://www.santevoyage.net/Tex/Tetan2.htm

Me at 6 months pregnant

Location: DOME Cafe, Mid Valley
Mood : More cheerful...
Time : 6 months pregnant

This is the latest photo taken(at Mid Valley). Perhaps i am wearing pink, i looked radiant and cheerful ehh? hehe..:)

At 26 weeks, half the 'battle' is won. Noticed my nose is 'flatter/growing bigger sideways'? This is indicator that most probably my baby is a girl. I don't know because until now the sex of my baby is not confirmed.

I am already thinking of adding colors to my hair and doing embroidery to my eye brows. Know that i shall not do these things during pregnancy, will affect the baby , bla..bla..bla..
Well, anyway, i also don't dare to take the risks.. will wait patiently for the baby to be born before i 'beautify' myself.

Well, after all with the excess 10 kgs gained, who cares to pay attention on the look of this pregnant lady? Posted by Picasa

Pregnant colleague admitted to hospital

In my department now, there are 4 pregnant ladies including myself. So we always have a 'duck pond' to 'quack' about. I am at 26 weeks, another 3 at 29 weeks, 30 weeks and 12 weeks respectively.

Last Friday, my colleague (29 weeks pregnant) had a 'swollen' face. In Malay, they called it 'sembap'. Went to panel clinic and was advised to admitted to hospital immediately because her blood pressure shoot up to 176! (normal for pregnancy, the highest is at 130). Lucky in a sense that she had a 'swollen' face, else she wouldn't know that her BP was so high as she had no symptom at all ie blurred eyesight or terrible headache.

Lesson learnt for myself and all pregnant friends:
When there is any peculiarity throughout the pregnancy, first things first, ask the Doc to cehck for Blood pressure and sugar level in blood. Too high of any of these mean high risk to the mother and baby.

Blood and urine tests result

Pheww... i was so relieved when the Doc told me that my blood and urine tests were normal. This meant no hidden pregnancy diseases, no diabetic. Hope this will be the case for the coming 3 months. Baby, please pray for Mommy also yeah!

But still need to complete taking the antibiotic for urine infetion--have to complete the course in 2 weeks.

Will have my monthly check up next week. This time, must ask the Doc to check for cleft lip, size of the baby, count of the fingers and toes, and maturity of all internal organs. (tips from my colleagues)

Lucky baby?

Friends do comment that pregnant ladies tend to be more lucky. I started to believe in it. Entered a few contests recently and started to win some stuffs. Though not something significant, it is still something that cheered me up each time i found out i won something.

Won some movie tickets, CDs, posters and recently a Gameboy! Think this baby of mine is really playful and enjoys entertainment.

Entered some contests with exciting holidays getaways... Baby, wanna grant Mom and Dad a wish? Let us be the winners in any of these contests, ok!

Or perhaps i shall try my luck in 4D and Jackpot? I might even strike it BIG! Hmmm..:)

I am Thalassemia free!

Checked the medical result on my blood test taken earlier. I was so happy to hear that i am Thalasemia free! This means my baby will not inherit this 'scary' disease from me. Suddenly feel blessed with the anaemic syndrome that i have as it wont be inherited to my baby.

Wish my baby to grow up healthily and 'kuai gao zhang da'. Boy or girl? Does it matters?

As for the anaemic i have, aside eating more lean meat, leafy greens and sometimes indulge in 'kerangs' and 'internal organs' delicacies, nothing much can be done. Anyway, really hope to cure it after my baby is born as i want to be an active blood donor. Now only can wish to donate, but everytime my blood is 'rejected' as not sufficient iron and haemoglobin.

Baby, you pray for Mommy also, ok!

Urine Infection

Terrible headache and vomit last Saturday. Went to HUKM for emergency check-up. Took a urine test and found out that i got urine infection. There were 'germs' in my urine and my urine was too acidic.

First time i heard of such illness can happen during pregnancy. My weekend was gone with me lying on bed, resting. Cant take in any solid food as i felt nausea and headache all times. Given some antibiotics and a solution to drink to 'cleanse' my urine.

Took aMC on Monday. Need to check the lab results this Thu. Took some urine and blood tests for more detailed tests. Hope nothing serious. Asked to perform the test as my weight increased a lot from 60.5 kg in end Oct and now it is at 68.5 kg. Normal? i doubt... Doc suspected i have diabetic. Pray hard for me that i don have diabetic...uwaaaaa....

Baby's weight at 25 weeks

Guessed how heavy is my baby now. It is only a mere 830 grams. And weight i have increased? Whooping 10 kg through this 6 months of pregnancy. Wonders whether my baby is really getting enough nutrient from the food i consumed. Now it worries me as less than 10% of the weight i increased goes to my dear darling baby...

But the active kicking esp at daytime makes me so excited. Cannot seem to write down the experience in words.. but i can assure you .. it is just mystical and make me looking forwards more 'kicks' and 'somersaults' by my baby in there.

Baby, you are just marvellous!
