My tummy is 'falling down'

With only 20 days away from the expected due date, i can see that the position of the tummy is lowering down. When i put my fingers at the abdomen, can feel the 'hollowness' there (about 4 fingers). And the pressure is more on the lower abdomen.

Baby movement is more frequent, sometimes a few kicks in each hour.. let me wonder whether the baby is awake all the times or she still kicks when sleeping? At this point, i can feel some 'movement' on the left side of my tummy..:)

Countdown to welcome my baby ... 20 ...19 ...18 ...

Hmm.. time flies.. Today is 28 Feb, last day of the second month of the year. It is also the first day of the 2nd month of lunar calendar. My due date is Mac 20(2nd month, 21 day of lunar calendar). So i am counting the days ... it is 20 days more and i will become a Mom!

Check-up at 37 weeks

Went for check-up at HUKM yesterday.
B/P:110/70, Urine test : ok, weight : 75 kg(increased 17 kg!)

Was lucky as i was the 2nd patient in the list, so my name was called by the nurse at 9am.
The Doc did the regular check, questioning and check the baby heartbeat via a metal 'tube'. Said that the baby already positioned the head in the right position.

Was given a fetal chart to monitor the baby movement. Must ensure there are 10 counts in 12 hours starting from 9am. So yesterday, the baby managed to complete the 10 counts at 4.15 pm. (Think my baby prefers Gov. job..:) heeheh, 4++pm already 'sou kong' (quit for the day)

Advanced Maternity Leave

After giving it a serious thought, i decided to apply maternity leave (60 days) by 2 weeks in advance. I think this way, i can rest more at home, and get myself prepared fully emotionally and psychologically.

Although earlier i worried, what if the baby is still not delivered after the 40 weeks? Would i have enough rest and time with my baby before resuming work? Then my 2 weeks advance leave will be wasted. Then think of it at another perspective, this is the time that i can really 'relax' and do what i love to do before my baby come and join my family and sort of 'control' my life..:)

Some of my colleagues and friends commented, 'What will i be doing with the 2 weeks leave idiling at home?' , 'Why not only take leave when i am about to deliver so that i can spend more time with the baby?' etc etc. Anyway, i hope i had made a wise choice as i had submitted the advance maternity leave to my Boss and he approved it. (so no point to rethink about my decision and '3 heart 2 thought' (san xin liang yi) about it anymore)

Baby's growth at this week (36 weeks)

Reference from www.babyfit.com

-->Limbs are dimpling at the elbows and knees as fat deposits continue.
-->The baby's gums are rigid and it may seem like teeth are about to come out.
-->The baby's body fat has likely increased to about 8% and may reach as high as 15% by
the end of your term.

My experience:

It shocked me everyday as the tummy is just continuing to grow 'bigger' in an alarming rate. And the increasing pressure sometimes made me suffer from the lower abdomen pain and a sudden urge to 'pee'.

My tummy is now 40 inches! (Cannot imagine those with waistline of 40 inches and above as they sure are carrying the 'pressure' as i do, not only for a month, like in my case, but forever...scary..)

A Romeo is born

Just received sms from Yuet Lai that Pooi Yee (Form 6 friends) had gave birth to a baby boy this afternoon. And today is Valentine's Day.. hmm.. so another Romeo is born, i would say!

I was talking with Pooi Yee yesterday evening and she mentioned that her baby was 3.2 kg in her tummy, so i think shall be no problem for her even if she delivered early. But it came a surprise that the baby boy wanna came to the world on Valentine's Day.

Thinking back, baby nowadays seem to 'choose' a special date to come to this world. Remembered another friend, Goet Kwone(uni-mate) baby boy also came to this world on the last day of 2005, at 34 weeks!

Hmm.. i think if can choose , i would like my baby girl to join my family on the due date or on Mac 8th, International Women Day or Mac 10th, my Mom's birthday..:) These dates are significant to me, personally...

Most active day for the baby

On 10 Feb, went to Mei Mei's 'bridal shower' to meet up since i will not attend the wedding ceremony and wedding banquet on the next day. (being 8 months pregnant, try to avoid crowded places). After that, went to visit Ice and baby Jia Yu which was only 5 min drive away.

I ate some nicely wrapped chocolate without knowing that it contained wine. For me, i dont feel the slightest sensation of getting 'high' not to say drunk. But think my baby got some of the effect (maybe it was only my own assumption after all).

That night, my baby was so active kicking and 'playing' in my tummy for abt 2 hrs non-stop. Can feel the hands and legs kicking lively and on and off , there were 'bumps' appearing on my tummy. Both myself and Sky thought that the baby is a bit 'drunk' and 'enjoying' itself in there.

That was the most active kicking day of my baby. ..:)

Saturdays off for banking staffs

Today is the first day i enjoyed having Saturday as off-day. Effective Feb 06, all banks are not operating on Saturdays, except those branches selected. Dont have to wake up early and rush to office and then half of the day is gone.

Think the most luckier person will be my baby who will reap the most benefits from my off-day. I will have more time to 'entertain' her and do houssechores. Well, i am not a 'Domestic Goddess', but i think with a new kid in the family, i cannot run away with the additional house errands.

How i spend my day? Woke up late, have a brunch with Sky, mom and dad, read a novel 'Memoirs of a Geisha', had a afternoon nap (something i have not done for ages on Saturday afternoons), and packed my maternity bag and some baby stuffs.

Expectation and Assumption

As a normal human being, everyone has a lot of expectation and assumption on many things in the various areas of our life. Same goes with me too. Now a Mommy-to-be soon, i do have a lot of expectation and make a lot of assumption about my to-be born baby.

Expect the baby to grow up healthily, expect the baby to be obedient, expect the baby to be courteous and have good manners, expect the baby to be smart and the list is endless...

'Default' assumption like what i plan and do for the baby is the 'best', my baby 'must' listen to me and etc..

However, one thing i learnt is open communication is very important especially in the family. Need to keep on reminding myself that 'Dont assume' the kid will understand our 'expectation and assumption' if it is not well communicated.

34 weeks and it is 40 days away from the due date...

Baby's development this week (reference from www.babyfit.com)

From this point on your baby has the level of development necessary to survive outside the womb. The baby's eyes are opening and closing in conjunction with its activity and resting periods. The eyes are nearly fully developed but will require a few weeks exposure to light to complete the pigmentation process. Over the final weeks of pregnancy, in anticipation of blood loss with the birthing process, your blood volume will add 2-4 pounds of weight to your body.

Other changes that are happening:
The baby is developing its own immune system to fight mild infections.
The baby's fingernails will reach the end of the finger tips this week.

Gestational diabetes

Oh, I was so worried when the Doc diagnosed me with gestational diabetes (a temporary diabetes) which happened to 10-20% of pregnancies in the third trimester. What a relief that after a full detailed blood tests (4 tubes of my blood was used for the test) the result shown that I am free from it!

But still, I have to be more careful with food intake and try to reduce the sweet stuffs. My mom and hubby are more ‘panicky’ then I am and ‘controlled’ my food intake. Well, think of it positively, what they are doing are for my good, but sometimes, I just feel that a little bit of ‘sweet’ stuffs wont do any harm..L

Craving for ice cream, chocolates, packet drinks , cookies esp during the CNY time…

I had a fall...

The incident happened at around 6pm on Feb 6th. I was having my bath at my mom’s house. Since I was on leave and having nothing much to do, I took some sweet time taking bath and removing some ‘stubborn dirt’ from my legs. Since pregnancy, I have brief baths.

I sat on a 1.5 feet high chair (like those used when washing clothes by aunties) and while I was concentrating scrubbing my leg, in a flash moment, I heard a loud thud, the chair overturned and I landed on the tiles. Carrying a big tummy, it was even more difficult for me to bring myself to stand up. Took me some time as I don’t want to end up with another fall!

Although the baby still kicked regularly (few kicks every hour), I still worried. So went to HUKM O&G for a check. Had the fetal monitor to monitor the baby’s heartbeat. Oh, relieved when heard the baby’s heartbeat loud and clear. Did a quick scan, the Doc just want to make sure that there was no impact to the placenta since I don’t have symptoms like bleeding, contraction pain and fluids coming out. Everything was OK.

Have to be more careful… now a bit painful at the butt area when walking…sigh

It is 99.98% a baby girl

On 6 Feb, I had my regular check up at HUKM. As usual performed the routines. Weight :73.2 kg (surprisingly there was no increase of weight despite the long CNY break), BP:110/70 (normal), Urine test:No protein and sugar detected.

Doc performed an ultrasound scan. Checked the diameter of the baby’s head, length of the abdomen and the femur. Baby weight was estimated to be 2.4 kg. And the best news for the morning was he confirmed the sex. Yeap, a baby girl for me…J
So I am now 99.98% sure that it will be a baby girl though I still reserve 0.02% in case it turned to be the other way round.
